October 30, 2012 - Microsoft brings out Jessica Alba to show off ‘Kid’s Corner’
She’s been a presence at tech conferences of late, and today Microsoft brought out actor-turned-entrepreneur Jessica Alba to talk up the virtues of Windows Phone 8, which the company is launching at an event in San Francisco.
Alba was on stage to tout Kid’s Corner, Microsoft’s new user account of sorts for kids. Kid’s Corner, which acts as a second lock screen for kids, lets an adult choose which apps the kids see, which music they can listen to, and which games they can play. Kids can choose their own theme colors, but they can’t pin apps to Kid’s Corner themselves. If your phone is locked, you just swipe right from the Start screens to get into the Kid’s Corner.
“I think it’s awesome,” Alba gushed about Kid’s Corner. “I love that I can curate the space. It’s a very clutch feature. Also I don’t need to worry about my kid going into my social-media networks, or e-mailing my partners or anything like that.”
So there you have it: A celebrity mom endorsement for Windows Phone. Alba also spent some time talking about switching to a Windows Phone from the iPhone. Naturally, she then plugged her startup, The Honest Company, which sells baby products such as diapers and wipes, before making her way off stage.
“This is the best tech crowd I’ve ever been in front of,” she said on her way out.

“I loved the clothes at the shoot—I thought they were really fun and colorful.”
“My parents always instilled in me the idea of social service and giving back and that’s just part of being a human being—you help your neighbor. It doesn’t feel like charity, it just feels like what you should do as a person. If you’re blessed with more, you should give more.”
The Advantage: “I can’t think of a better way to spend my work life than on a movie set. But with people following me when I go out and everyone wanting me to endorse things, I thought, I can either go into a cave and hide or use my access to influence something I’m passionate about. So I turned the attention into a positive by offering safe, nontoxic, affordable but high-quality products for families, all from one place.”

August 15, 2012 - How SELF’s Favorite Celebrities Give Back: Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba’s company, Honest, makes and sells eco-friendy baby, bath, body and household products. A portion of proceeds goes to children and families in need via Baby2Baby, her company’s nonprofit partner.
“I found my daughter Honor sitting in her crib, eating these tiny beads from the inside of her diaper. They were all over her face. It was a moment of terror.”
“Thankfully, Honor was OK, but it was so crazy, and I felt guilty afterward. I worried that I’d poisoned my daughter—and these were eco-diapers! I found ones that seemed safer, but they leaked, so I had to use two at once, and they were already so expensive. The more research I did, the more irritated I got. Most parents don’t have time to do all this research—they need a company with products they can trust. I wanted to create that.”
How you can help: Call your senator to support the Safe Chemicals Act, which would require testing of chemicals in household products.
May 23, 2012 - Release date confirmed for 3D Sin City 2
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For has released a glut of new information, including an official release date, confirmation of Jessica Alba’s return and the fact that the film will be presented in 3D.
First things first, and that all-important release date has been confirmed as 4 October 2013. That’s when the film will open in the US, with the UK date likely to follow in short order.
Next, we have confirmation that Jessica Alba will join Mickey Rourke in the long-awaited sequel, with both stars named in an official press release. Rosario Dawson is also expected to reappear, although her name is conspicuous by its absence in the official blurb.
What is included is the news that the film will be presented in 3D, lending a new element to the distinctive look of the first film.
“The original Sin City broke new ground with its iconic stylish look and grossed over $160 million worldwide,” explains the release. “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For will not only bring fans back to the world that Rodriguez and Miller created, but will also add a new dimension by bringing their unique visual style to life in 3D.”
Top dimension-based pun there. More importantly however, the date is set, and things are moving forward. Let the stylised slaughter begin!

May 18, 2012 - Fast Company Names Jessica Alba #17 Most Creative Person in the Business
Jessica Alba is not a scientist, nor has she played one on TV. But she is a mom, and she’s done a lot of research. “I read a book called Healthy Child Healthy World when I was seven-and-a-half months pregnant, and my eyes were opened to all of the toxic chemicals that are in everyday household and baby products,” Alba says. “So I went to the author of that book, Christopher Gavigan, and I hounded him for a year. I said, ‘I appreciate you’ve given me a handbook, but you haven’t given me a solution. Let’s make the solution.’ ” Together, they developed a baby-care and household-cleaner company eco-friendly enough to calm her nerves, with a flagship product that’s every new parent’s largest recurring purchase. “We felt like the disposable-diaper industry was the greatest area of opportunity for innovation,” Alba says.

March 20, 2012 - Jessica Alba to Release Her First Book
Jessica Alba: actress, wife, mother, and now, author!
Alba, 30, will release The Honest Life, a how-to handbook based on her mission of creating a natural, non-toxic life for her family.
“It’s totally crazy but amazing,” Alba tells PEOPLE of her book news, adding of her lifestyle, “I’m not extreme. This book is for people who are in the middle but want to create a healthier life, like me.”
The actress recently launched her first business, The Honest Company, with business partner and co-author Christopher Gavigan. And her book will detail her life as a mother and entrepreneur, seeking to give her children, Honor, 3 and Haven, 7 months, a better and safer start in life.
The Honest Life will offer tips on how to create a non-toxic home, from design tips to some of Alba’s favorite family recipes. “Honor’s favorite meatball recipe will be in there,” says her mom.
“And I always hide flax seeds in everything,” she explains, keeping it healthy but still tasty for her two girls. The book will also include beauty tips including “homemade” treatments to incorporate into your routine. Among them: simple, fun DIY family projects (Alba and husband Cash Warren refinished furniture for daughter Haven’s room), tips on making sure your home is filled with only the purest of materials and inexpensive ways to find your own authentic style.
“It will be easy and fun and I want it to be really colorful,” says Alba. “I’m a crazy foodie. I love doing projects with my kids. Everything in this book will be something meaningful that I’ve incorporated into our lives. I wanted some kind of handbook with all the information I was consuming so I could apply it in a practical way.”
The Honest Life will be published in early 2013 by Rodale.
